Nana: one-of-a-kind

  • Mar. 16th, 2009 at 2:28 PM

Nana - my one-of-a-kind PINK friend

She says I am stubborn, not wanting to listen what others say..

I say you are strong-willed, standing by what you say..
She says I am not going to make it..

I say you can, you just have not reached your best..

She says I escape reality..

I say you are a dreamer..

Nana is a petite girl whom I admire for
Her emotions (the meaning behind each tear she drops, each laugh bubbling out of her)
Her sincerity (to always think of others before self)
Her smile (: (those braces!)
Her motherly-ness (her nagging)
Her gentleness (the mannerisms)
Her stability (something that I seriously lack in!)
Her generosity (anybody want lunch? I cooked too much, I arrived and get stuffed with her food)

Nana, you amaze me, seriously!
You said not to envy you, but I really do.
To be able to feel so much for one person, is something that I go goo-goo-gaa-gaa about!

Nana, you are indeed one-of-a-kind, special, and someone whom I can call a friend
Nana, my true friend (:

Update of sorts

  • Nov. 28th, 2008 at 3:38 PM

It's been really really long since the last time i have updated on this blog. Been BABKA-ing, chilling out with the ROFLMAOLIKSEMAs.

in short, within a short period of 3 months, i have changed my name multiple times:
1. Kelly (Gracie-gal)
2. Jelly (Nana, I think)
3. Koala-shaped passionfruit flavoured jelly with aloe vera bits (Nana, Jem and Gracie)
4. Sotong (XN...)
5. Sotong ball (Nana and XN)
what an evolution.

We hated Ten Ren..

then proceeded to have a dose of the Belgian Beer Garden Bluestone..

and then gotten sick of eating out, ended up having our own dose of japanese cuisine.. all in the comfort of fay fay's place!

That's it for now.. off to do more work.. another 23 more days back to home! cannot wait! (:

the St. Vinnies!

September - Atlantis
First time going for a dress-up ball. Been to a ball before. As all of you know, CJ's graduation ball. This experience is totally different. People were asked to dress up to a theme and many turned up beautifully dressed. Shanna and I decided to go for a Roman goddess kind of look. Toga is the thing. Like any old-fashioned Singaporean student, we decided to leave things to the last minute. Thursday saw us shopping for clothes, shoes and accessories. Friday was the ball. Went to Fay's house to prepare, but again, left it to the last minute to tie the toga together (many thanks to Tash, Fay, Min and Sarah).

Got there and realised that I have won a door gift - a bottle of Chandon. What a waste on me! I dont understand and appreciate alcohol and here I am, a winner of a bottle of alcohol! What irony!

Fay and Eddy with the prized Chandon

Melbourne Aquarium - fishes, sharks, sailors, C-MEN, King Neptune, Roman gods and goddesses - all crammed in one place. Had loads of fun! Food was not fantastic, but desserts stole the show. Passionfruit sorbet, candy floss and icecream! Yummy!

After-party was not that alluring to a bunch of us, but seeing how drunk a certain masked man has made Mat high, we decided to keep a not-so-close distance behind. After deciding that we needed to sobre up, we headed over to Greco, a dessert cafe in Crown. More hilarious events started to unfold. Mat became camera-high and started to snap at himself. Eddy was talking so loudly that we had to shush him every 2 minutes or so. Even fetching everyone back had people in the taxi wondering to themselves whether the taxi driver regretted taking this bunch of people from Crown. Noisy, ridiculous, parroting the GPRS etc.

September 15 - Mooncake festival
Every mooncake festival always tells a different story. This year is no different.
Celebrated with a whole bunch of pple- Shanna, Min, Fay, Sarah, Christina, Xianning, Jeremy and Leo. And of course, who can forget to mention the cook-housemate, Eddy Lee. We had tonnes of fun.

Started off with photo-exchange. Brought back some fond memories of my first 2 years here in melbourne. I remembered every event or outing Maryline and gang organised, there would be at least 2 cameras around flashing. So there came a point of time where we had to come together and share the photos. It was like a huge den of computers situated on every inch of the table, with wires spewing over, onto the floors.

Had a huge dinner - Eddy whipped up chicken (herbal), fish (fried with black beans), and pork (buk kut teh). Awww.. it was almost like feeding a family of ten. LOL! (:

Facebooking and tagging - was one of the best parts of the evening. We looked at photos, talked, laughed till tears were falling. Then after finishing almost all food, we decided to go light some serious lanterns in the cold spring night.

"How many scientists does it take to light a candle?"

The whole group with lanterns hiding in REB

The whole group back home with the lanterns - standing and by the couch

Cannot believe that so many events have gone like that in just 2 weeks! But but but! there is still the zoo, the visits from jingxi and reubie boy to look forward to! And also the steamboat over at HQ! the soccer! Busy busy.. and they say PhD is less stressful than honours! Have to re-think that statement..

I miss home!

  • Sep. 1st, 2008 at 8:14 PM

it's always a blessing to have a sibling to talk and crap to. Just a short 20 minutes also is something to look forward to.

Talking to my younger sister yesterday is like almost receiving a long-due letter, which you are waiting in anticipation to receive. that feeling is so silly, it is almost like i was just away on a year-long holiday. and if those of you who dont know who  my sis is, she is jean, 8 years younger, but she is the one person whom i can never get angry. (:

aside from missing home, today went over to a jap restaurant to have dinner with mister lim and miss lai. had been craving for some nabe (jap hot pot..) (: started talking about how if we were doctors and the things we have to endure. Ridiculous situations with ridiculous techniques of handling. well, that only applies to my friend miss lai. all the best for your sept 13th MCAT!

another piece of good news! Sinagpore Day is coming to melb this year and and and...

melb uni's hosting it in their sidney myer! PCK, Dick Lee, Tay Ping Hui and chili crabs.. they literally bring singaproe to your doorstep!

240

As for me, it is going to be a busy month ahead (since when isnt it busy?!?!?) sigh, i better get going in my reading.. have not been that updated as i hoped i will be at this stage. (:

Shiver me timbers (:

if you guys havent heard of, i have just got back from Sydney - the land so cosmopolitan that it resembled New York!

Beautiful day-weather, horrendous night-weather.

4 days 3 nights and still i prefer the quieter laid-back melbourne.

Met with Reubie Boy and Diana.

Pancakes on the Rocks.

Hurricane Grill.

Something blue cooler.

Waterfront.

Lindt shop.

Peter's on Kensington - Good shopping place!

Conference - work while relaxing!

A factory of knowledge, 4000+ delegates (UNBELIEVABLE!)

Ages! Standing there, "eating" the microphone is not for the faint-hearted.

Jelly legs. Slow talker.

Random pictures -

Darling Harbour

QVB - Queen Victoria Building

IRC TTS 2008 Delegates and our $75 not-worth-dinner

Miss Di and Jo-jo (Hurricane Grill)

I hate needles!

  • Jun. 6th, 2008 at 11:03 PM

Not nice to have one stuck in your hand!
Went for my PR medical check-up
Part of the procedure was to have a blood test for HIV (as if I would have unsafe sex! WHAT?!?! $%$^E%^)
After drawing 5cc (I think) of my precious blood, I am left with a bruise!
Why? The lady told me to put pressure by making an acute angle with my arm.
Removed the plaster an hour later, and realized my arm has a bruise!

According to Fei Zai, it is a thrombi, which will soon fade away after 3-4 days.
The correct way is to relax your arm, allowing it to fall by your side and not apply pressure by flexing your muscles at your arm joint!

To cover that bruise, I managed to dye my hair brown!
Yipee! (: and Sunday is Sandra P's baby shower and XN's turning 22 on Sunday as well..
Loads of activities packed up for this long weekend, as Monday's the Queen's birthday!

Confetti and get-togethers

  • Jun. 2nd, 2008 at 9:13 PM

Boo! (quote, unquote Maryline) June has come, which means that winter is here to stay!
Last night's temperature has dropped to a low of 4 degrees!
Melbourne city is that cold in such early periods of winter..
Sigh, it is going to be a long winter.

Anyway more exciting things..
Been having two-weekends' of fun.
Birthdays are once-a-year event..
Jansen and Kenny just had theirs.. and here are some photos to keep you guys updated (with the nudgings from yours truly Jea)!
"Your blog is sooo outdated.."
BLEH!

Jansen's 26th Birthday.. Weimei's house..

Fast-forward to a week's time.. Kenny's 26th birthday! (:

That's it for now.. gosh.. how fast these two weeks have slipped past..
But I am coping well with stuff.
Juggling work and friends and shows (taiwanese and canto shows)..
I am OFFICIALLY HOOKED ONTO THIS SHOW! (:

This show - 命中 - has been garnering loads of television ratings.. I have to say "Two thumbs up!"

Okay then, I have to go back to work already.

I like to dedicate this to...

Mummy, wishing you a...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Thanks for all the times where I had made you frustrated, anxious, happy, sad, on-top-of-the-world and the whole spectrum of emotions mothers have come to terms with when dealing with their kids.
Thank you for all the times where I would almost give up, but you would come by alongside me, and pull me up...
definitely, for all the times we share, watching series over the TV, suffering Papa's wrath (i.e. series = no-no)
the nagging and the late night dinner-supper will always be missed when you are not around.
the countless of times where you let go of my hand to give me a chance to grow, no matter how hard is it for you to do so.

Mummy, thank you for the never-ending and tireless care that you shower upon me (as well as Reub and Jea). Raising the 3 of us rascals can be quite a handful but at the end of the day...

I <3 YOU!

Back at you, GENIUS!
